The managing committee of the Bangalore Turf Club that met here on Monday agreed in-principle to shift racing activities from the present location and is hoping for a firm proposal on the proposed location from the State government to place it before the extraordinary general body meeting (EGM).

BTC sources said that the meeting saw participation of at least six former chairmen of BTC, during which the government’s proposal to move the racing activities outside the city was approved.

“There are certain rules and regulations to convene the EGM. Only after the government provides a proposal specifying the location of the litigation-free uninterrupted land that it can be formally placed before the EGM. We are awaiting the government’s move.”

While the State government wants the BTC to withdraw the petition in the Supreme Court, it has indicated that the racing activities could be moved to the historic stud farm at Kunigal. On the other hand, the BTC having agreed to both the conditions, wants to retain 6.5 acres on the existing premises to continue with the club activities.

The managing committee meeting follows a surprise visit by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to the BTC on Sunday during which he asked the BTC officials to hasten the process of shifting out.
