Bureaucratic backgrounds of new NDA MLAs raise expectations in Buxar and Dumraon

Buxar: All eyes are now on the style of functioning of the two newly elected NDA MLAs – Anand Mishra (Buxar, BJP) and Rahul Singh (Dumraon, JD-U) – given their strong bureaucratic backgrounds.

Mishra is a former IPS officer of the Assam cadre while Singh served as assistant commandant in the SSB and later as assistant commissioner in the Delhi Municipal Corporation before joining politics.“Their bureaucratic background is good in the interest of this district. I hope they will prompt the district administration to expedite pending development projects in Buxar. It will be a tough situation for the local officers to deal with them,” said Ramnath Tewari, an NDA supporter.Sunil Kumar, a teacher at Sumitra Mahila College in Dumraon, said the bureaucratic grounding of both MLAs has raised hopes of accelerated development in Dumraon and Buxar. However, he added that their connect with the poor will also determine their effectiveness. “They must develop their direct relation with poor people. They should give patient hearing to their problems. Politics is certainly a new field for them.

So, they would be expected to quickly develop their socio-political understanding about their constituencies concerned,” he said.Dumraon MLA Singh has already signalled his approach as a public representative. A day after receiving his victory certificate, he personally inspected roads in poor condition, spoke to officers concerned and sought details on delays in maintenance. “He must keep this enthusiasm alive.

Now, voters expect Rahul to ensure fast execution of the pending development projects,” said Pradeep Kumar Jaiswal, president of the Dumraon Chamber of Commerce and Industries.Mishra is known for his dynamic policing and fearless image during his tenure as an IPS officer in Assam. “The Buxar seat had slipped from the BJP’s hands in the past two elections. By fielding Mishra, the party made a calculated move that proved crucial,” said district BJP president Omprakash Bhuvan.Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Mishra resigned from the IPS and contested the Buxar parliamentary seat as an independent. Although he did not win, securing nearly 50,000 votes demonstrated his strong public connect. Impressed by his performance, the BJP fielded him for the assembly seat this year.Dumraon MLA Singh’s brother Pankaj Kumar is health and transport minister in the Delhi govt and he campaigned for Singh in the constituency. “I hope it will be easy for the voters to receive medical treatment in Delhi also,” said Deepak Gupta, a Dumraon voter.
