The Chittoor police on Sunday (August 31, 2025) arrested a 26-year-old burglar and recovered stolen property including gold ornaments worth ₹11 lakh.
Speaking to the media here, Superintendent of Police V.N. Manikanta Chandolu said that the accused, identified as G. Prashanth (28) of Ranipet district in Tamil Nadu, had been involved in multiple burglaries reported under Penumur, Chittoor Taluk, and Narasingarayani Peta police station limits. His modus operandi was to identify locked houses during the daytime and commit burglaries at night, with a focus on almirahs and puja rooms.
On August 21, a couple registered a complaint alleging that their house at Bangareddipalli village in Chittoor rural mandal was ransacked and gold ornaments weighing 65 grams and ₹42,000 in cash was missing.
The SP formed a special team led by Deputy SP Sainath and Chittoor Taluk inspector G. Nithya Babu. The team used technical surveillance to track the accused. Prashanth was arrested at NR Peta Agriculture Market check post on Sunday morning. He confessed of committing three burglaries in Chittoor limits in 2024 and 2025.
