Burglars allegedly stole 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery and several silver items from the house of a farmer in Pudur village near Chengam town in Tiruvannamalai district on Sunday.
Police said the farmer Sivanesan and his family had gone to Tirupati temple a few days ago. When they returned home, they found the main door damaged.
Cupboards and an almirah had been broken open inside the house. Valuables, including cash, gold jewellery, and silver items, were missing. The hard disks of the CCTV cameras installed in the veranda were also stolen, and the cameras themselves had been damaged.
Mr Sivanesan alerted the Pachal police, who arrived at the scene along with forensic experts. Fingerprints were collected, and police also retrieved CCTV footage from nearby areas along the route to the house.
Superintendent of Police (SP) M. Sudhakar has formed special teams to track down the culprits.
