Burglars decamped with 600 liquor bottles, estimated at ₹85,000 and ₹15,000 in cash from two TASMAC outlets near Pernambut and Ambur towns in Vellore and Tirupattur districts, respectively, on Tuesday.

Police said that, in the first incident, outlet salesmen V. Mahendra Kumar, 40, and S. Paulraj, 30, found the main gate lock of the outlet in Kothapalli village broken. They went inside the shop and found that several racks of liquor bottles had been stolen. They also found a hole in the wall, which had been drilled to gain access to the stocks inside the shop. Hard disks of CCTV cameras fixed inside the outlet were also missing, and the cameras were damaged. Immediately, they alerted the Pernambut police. Police personnel secured the footage along the route where the shop is located.

In a separate incident, residents found the main door of the outlet in Minnur village near Ambur town in Tirupattur broken. They alerted the Ambur Taluk police, who rushed to the spot. Loads of liquor bottles and ₹15,000 in cash were found missing. Cases were registered at the Pernambut and Ambur Taluk police stations respectively. Further probe is under way.
