Canacona locals say authorities failed to address cattle issue

Canacona: The issue of stray cattle has remained unresolved in Canacona even as several accidents have been reported in the last few months. Last week, seven cattle were killed in separate accidents.A local said the problem has been more evident along the Manohar Parrikar bypass road at Bhagatwada and the stretches of the old service road, including Shristhal, Ardhofond and Aframent. At these locations, numerous cattle are frequently seen squatting on roads, especially during early morning and late night hours, posing serious safety hazards. “Drivers and pedestrians are forced to navigate dangerously around these squatted animals,” the local said.At Ardhofond, two vehicles had an accident while navigating their way while the cattle were sitting in the middle of the road on Saturday night. A cow also died in the accident. On Friday night, six buffaloes were killed after being hit by some vehicles along the Canacona bypass near Bhagatwada. Locals also assisted the police in clearing the carcasses. The locals said govt is not serious about resolving the stray cattle issue. The Canacona Municipal Council or the panchayats in Canacona are not taking any measures to curb the menace, he said.
