The annual conference of the Indian College of Cardiology (ICC) Kerala Chapter, titled ICC CON 2025, began at Raviz Kadavu, Kozhikode, on Saturday (July 5).

A release said that over 300 cardiologists from across India were attending the two-day event, which would spotlight the advancements in cardiology, evolving treatment methods, and challenges in cardiac care. K. Suresh, president, the ICC Kerala chapter, while opening the conference, said that people need to be made aware of modern heart care technologies such as AI-powered diagnostics, advanced imaging, and minimally invasive procedures. It must be ensured that these technologies are available across both private and public health sectors, he added.

K.H. Srinivasa, a senior cardiologist from Bengaluru, in his keynote address, said that heart valve disease was now a manageable condition with a wide array of safe and effective treatments, many of which don’t require major surgery. “Technological advancements like Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement offer even elderly patients or those unfit for surgery life-saving interventions with faster recovery and fewer complications. It is a minimally invasive procedure used primarily for aortic valve replacement. Instead of open-heart surgery, doctors insert a new valve through a small incision, guided by imaging tools. The new valve is expanded inside the old one, all while the heart continues to beat,” he said.

On the second day, novel drug therapies, heart transplant evaluations, the use of nuclear medicine, and the cardiac impact of chemotherapy will be discussed.
