Six-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz has ended his partnership with long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, the former announced on Wednesday. Ferrero, a former world No. 1 and Grand Slam champion, began coaching Alcaraz when the Spanish prodigy was just 16, shaping him into one of the top players in the world.
Under Ferrero’s guidance, Alcaraz has won 24 career titles, including six Grand Slams, spent 50 weeks at world No. 1 and bagged an Olympic silver medal.
The announcement comes just days after Ferrero and Samuel Lopez were named ATP Coaches of the Year for 2025, with the former becoming the first man to win the award several times since its inception in 2016.
“It is very difficult for me to write this post… After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our journey together as coach and player. Thank you for turning a childhood dream into reality," Alcaraz posted on his social media.
“We started this path when I was just a kid and throughout all this time, you have accompanied me on an incredible journey, both on and off the court. I have enjoyed every step with you immensely," Alcaraz said.
“We managed to reach the top and I feel that if our sporting paths were to separate, it had to be from there, from the place we always worked toward and aspired to reach," Alcaraz added.
Ferrero posted a message on Instagram as well, sharing a series of pictures with Alcaraz from their years together. He wrote: “Today is a difficult day, one of those when it is hard to find the right words."
Alcaraz is coached by Lopez as well, who works at Ferrero’s academy in Alicante. Neither the former nor Ferrero has disclosed the reason behind Ferrero’s departure from the camp.
