In a shocking case of police brutality, journalist Balvinder Kumar Bhalla was brutally assaulted by two police officials in Batala, Punjab. The incident, captured on CCTV, is being widely circulated on social media.
As per the visuals, sub-inspectors Mandeep Singh and Surjit Singh were seen dragging and mercilessly beating the journalist in broad daylight on Dera Road.
The video shows Bhalla being beaten, dragged on the road, and seemingly left unconscious. The incident occurred on August 1.
According to sources, both the accused officers are reportedly posted in the 5th Commando Battalion in Bathinda, and were in Batala on law and order duty.
The Batala Civil Lines police station has registered an FIR against Surjit Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, and Mandeep Singh, from Housing Board Colony, Bathinda.
Batala’s DSP City confirmed that immediate action was taken after the incident came to light.
A detailed report has been forwarded to the Commandant of the 5th Commando Battalion in Bathinda, recommending strict departmental action. However, no arrests have been made so far.
