The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested Lieutenant Colonel Deepak Kumar Sharma and Vinod Kumar, following allegations of bribery and corruption linked to the Department of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence. The arrests took place after the CBI registered a case based on information regarding illicit activities involving government officials and private companies in the defence sector.
CBI officials said Sharma was allegedly involved in taking Rs 3 lakh as a bribe from a Bengaluru-based company in exchange for providing undue favours to the firm.
The company’s representatives, Rajiv Yadav and Ravjit Singh, were reportedly managing its Indian operations and remained in regular contact with Sharma to secure advantages through illegal means.
During searches at Sharma’s residence in Delhi, the investigation team recovered Rs 2.23 crore in cash, along with the bribe amount of Rs 3 lakh.
In addition, Rs 10 lakh was seized from the residence of Sharma’s wife, Colonel Kajal Bali, in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar. Searches also took place at locations in Bengaluru, Jammu, and at Sharma's office in New Delhi.
