Guwahati: The CBI has registered a case against a former NF Railway engineer for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his income.The accused, Hemanta Kumar Das, was posted as executive engineer (construction), Jiribam-II, Silchar from Oct 9, 2013, to Jul 31, 2017, and took voluntary retirement on Jul 31, 2017.As per the complaint, the accused accumulated over Rs 33 lakh between Apr 1, 2016 and Jul 31, 2017, disproportionate to his legal and known sources of income, which he cannot account for satisfactorily. During the investigation, the central investigating agency found that the accused owned assets amounting to over Rs 6 lakh at the beginning of the check period, which was on Apri 1, 2016, and assets in his name were found to the tune of over Rs 51.71 lakh on Jul 31, 2017.The agency said the accused acquired assets of over Rs 45.62 lakh during the check period. The investigation revealed the accused acquired assets worth over Rs 33.11 lakh from April 1 to July 31, 2017.The case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, in Guwahati.
