As part of a special drive, CCB officials on Monday raided the central prison of Parappana Agrahara and recovered banned items, including tobacco products, knives, chillum used for smoking and ₹16,180 in cash.
The raid was carried out close on the heels of a psychiatric counsellor being caught red-handed smuggling a mobile phone in her private part to be handed over to an undertrial.
Based on a tip-off that banned substances are still being used, a team of CCB sleuths visited the central prison without informing the prison officials, searched the barracks, and seized the items. Even though the officials did not find any drugs, recovery of chillum made it evident that ganja is being used in the prison, officials said.
The officials suspect that the accused were running illegal shops on the prison premises in collusion with the prison staff.
The CCB officials recovered a book containing the details of the sale of goods, which is being verified to ascertain the network.
