Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown is listed as day-to-day after suffering a left hamstring injury during Wednesday’s preseason finale against the Toronto Raptors — just days before the team tips off its regular season campaign.
Brown exited midway through the first quarter of Boston’s 110–108 win, grabbing at his hamstring before heading to the locker room and not returning. While the injury doesn’t appear to be serious, the timing is far from ideal for the defending NBA champions.
At Friday’s practice, Brown sat out the live portions of drills. Head coach Joe Mazzulla kept things vague when asked if his star forward would be ready for Wednesday’s season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers.
“I expect him to be at his best every single day, and then we’ll take it from there," Mazzulla said. “Just one day at a time."
A Key Piece in Boston’s New-Look Season
The 28-year-old four-time All-Star is expected to shoulder a heavier load this season, with co-star Jayson Tatum sidelined for most of the year due to an Achilles injury.
Brown, who was named NBA Finals MVP in 2024 after leading the Celtics past the Dallas Mavericks in five games, now finds himself as Boston’s go-to leader on both ends of the court.
Last season, Brown averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and a career-high 4.5 assists in 63 games. Durability, however, has been an ongoing concern — he has reached the 70-game mark just once in the past six years.
In nine seasons with Boston, Brown has averaged 19.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists across 603 career games. The Celtics will be hoping their Finals MVP bounces back quickly, with another championship run in sight.
