Amid power disruptions and complaints following heavy overnight rain, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) has been directed to intensify its monsoon preparedness with emphasis on rapid complaint redressal, uninterrupted public helplines and adequate stock of emergency materials.
Presiding over a monsoon preparedness review meeting at the CESC main office in Mysuru on Saturday, Regional Commissioner and CESC in-charge M.D. Nitesh Patil instructed officials to ensure that the power utility remains fully equipped to tackle electricity disruptions and emergency situations during the rainy season.
Reviewing preparedness measures across the five districts under the CESC jurisdiction, Mr. Patil sought details on complaint management systems, public response mechanisms, handling of power outages and availability of essential materials. “If the public cannot reach the utility, problems cannot be resolved quickly. Complaint reception and response systems must therefore be strengthened,” he said.
He also directed officials to ensure that all toll-free and public contact numbers remain functional round the clock and ordered the activation of inactive helpline numbers.
Referring to the problems experienced during the rain, Mr. Patil instructed officials to maintain sufficient stock of poles and other essential materials well in advance instead of seeking supplies after disruptions occur.
Mr. Patil also warned that contractors failing to execute work as per Standard Operating Procedures during the monsoon should be issued notices. Contractors delivering timely and quality work during the rainy season should be entrusted with more work, while those showing negligence should be assigned less work, he said.
He also cautioned officials and staff to remain vigilant during the monsoon to prevent electrical accidents involving both CESC personnel and the public.
Technical Director Sharanamma S. Jangin, Chief General Manager (Internal Audit) Lingarajamma, Chief Engineer L. Lokesh, Superintending Engineers Sunil Kumar and Somashekhar were present.
