Abhay Manohar Sapre, retired Supreme Court judge and chairperson of the apex court’s Road Safety Advisory Committee, inspected the road safety measures on the National Highway 275, which also connects Bengaluru and Mysuru.
Mr. Sapre, who carried out the inspection along with senior officials including Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar on December 20, also held discussions with the officials on the additional measures required to prevent serious road accidents on NH 275.
During the review, the retired judge appreciated that road accidents on the national highway had reduced in 2025 compared to previous years after the installation of AI-enabled cameras.
However, he instructed the officials to take necessary steps to carry out regular technical updates of the AI cameras and other devices to ensure their smooth functioning.
Other safety improvements were also recommended at places where road accidents were reported frequently. Mr. Sapre also recommended the installation of digital speed control systems to regulate over-speeding of vehicles.
He suggested installing adequate signboards that are prominently and clearly visible at accident-prone locations, in addition to undertaking measures to ensure strict adherence to lane discipline and prevention of over-speeding.
Other officials present during the inspection included A.M. Yogeesh, transport commissioner, Bengaluru, Mallikarjun Baladandi, Superintendent of the Mandya district police, Thimmaiah, Additional Superintendent of the Mandya district police, and M.S. Obale, project director of National Highways Authority of India, Ramanagara.
