Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday dismissed US President Donald Trump’s recent “dead economy” remark on India, asserting that the country is the fastest-growing major economy in the world.
Speaking at the Har Ghar Tiranga Rally in Vijayawada, Naidu said, “US President said ours is a dead economy. No, it is the only economy moving ahead fast in the world. Nobody can compete with it.”
Naidu noted that while India was once seen as a “poor country incapable of anything,” it is now emerging as one of the most powerful nations globally. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership over the past 11 years for the country’s rise from the 11th to the 4th largest economy, with projections to reach the 3rd spot by 2028.
Taking another swipe at Trump amid the ongoing tariff row, Naidu said temporary hurdles like increased taxes or duties would not stop India’s progress. “Some people may believe that India’s progress can be halted by such measures, but this is nothing more than their imagination,” he said.
On reported calls to deny jobs to Indians abroad, Naidu warned that such countries would soon realise they cannot develop without Indian talent.
