Keenan Allen has faced his share of injuries throughout his NFL career, yet his resilience and performance have rarely wavered. From a torn ACL in 2016 to a lacerated kidney in 2015, Allen has battled setbacks that would sideline many players.
Despite these challenges, the 33-year-old wide receiver continues to excel, demonstrating both durability and determination on the field.
The story behind Keenan Allen’s “Alien Shoulders”
One of the most talked-about aspects of Allen’s career is his shoulders, famously nicknamed “alien shoulders” due to the bone spurs on both sides. The first notable injury occurred in 2013 when Allen, then a rookie with the San Diego Chargers, sprained the AC joint in his right shoulder while diving to avoid a hit.
Remarkably, he never required surgery, and the injury healed naturally, leaving a distinctive bump shaped like a golf ball.A decade later, in 2023, Allen sprained the AC joint of his left shoulder during a tackle against the Detroit Lions. True to his resilient nature, he immediately reassured fans, stating, “I’ll be out there again,” in the next game versus the Green Bay Packers. Despite the visual oddity, these shoulder injuries have not hampered his performance or mobility.
