Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has set a target for the Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) to achieve 75% result in SSLC exams without awarding grace marks to students.
At the re-opening ceremony at Karnataka Public School (KPS), Adugodi, on Thursday organised by DSEL, the Chief Minister once again expressed his displeasure over the department awarding grace marks during the 2024 SSLC results.
During his speech, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the SSLC 2024 results were increased by giving 20% grace marks, while Minister for School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa told him the grace marks awarded was 10%, “I know very well that the grace marks awarded last year was 20%. I have clearly said there should not be any grace marks. To know the real capacity of the students, we should stop giving such marks.”
He said in the SSLC 2026 exams, the total number of students scoring 100% in all subjects should reach one lakh. “This year, 40 students have secured 625 out of 625. I want that number to increase to one lakh next year,” he added.
Sharing details about the facilities provided at government schools and assuring of improving the quality to be on a par with private ones, Mr. Siddaramaiah requested the parents to enroll their wards to government-run schools.
Stressing on the importance of the mother tongue and regional language, he said: “Knowledge and language are not related and we cannot say that those who studied at government schools are not intelligent. I am an example of a government school product; today I am the Chief Minister for the second time.”
