The Chittoor district administration is gearing up for Pulse Polio Immunisation programme scheduled on December 21. District Revenue Officer K. Mohan Kumar on Friday (December 12, 2025) chaired a coordination meeting with officials from multiple departments and reviewed the arrangements.
The DRO said that although the country remained polio-free, cases reported in neighbouring regions underlined the need for continued vigilance. He stressed that administering two polio drops to every child, from 0-5 years, was crucial to prevent disability.
Chittoor district has 2,21,502 children in the target age group, for whom 14,730 vials have been arranged. The vaccination will be carried out through 5,794 booths across 142 routes, supported by paramedical staff, Anganwadi and Asha workers and ICDS staff.
The campaign will run for three days, including booth-based immunisation on Day 1, followed by door-to-door visits on Days 2 and 3 to ensure no child is missed. Teams will mark houses to track coverage and vaccinate left-out children at their doorstep.
Officials were instructed to execute the programme thoroughly and strive for 100% coverage to maintain a polio-free district.
