Ranchi: Ranchi police have made additional deployments of personnel across the city, to curb drunk and rash driving during the festive season. Police patrolling teams have been pressed into service and barricades set up on roads leading to major churches across the city to prevent nuisance and ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety amid Christmas and New Year celebrations.Ranchi traffic superintendent of police (SP) Rakesh Singh told TOI that cases of rash and drunk driving and women safety issues remain primary concerns of the police during the festive season, prompting heightened vigilance across key locations in the city.“To prevent occurrence of rash and drunk driving, special checking drives and night patrols have been planned at busy intersections, market areas and near places of celebration.
As many as 15 teams of traffic police and personnel of all police stations have been prepared. The teams have been pressed into service to check on the menaces from Wednesday night till 5 am on Thursday, across the city,” the traffic SP added.The teams equipped with breathalysers and additional deployment put up checks on roads leading to major churches in the city, where footfall is expected to increase manifold.“Security and safety breaches toward women in the crowds is also a major concern during festivities. City police are keeping a strict vigil on the crowd so that no such incidents take place and dampen the festive fervour. These measures will continue till the New Year celebrations,” Singh added.
