The Kerala High Court has directed the State government to inform it of the tentative time frame within which the rules to prevent the exploitation of women actors in the film industry will be readied.
The court issued the directive while considering petitions submitted in connection with the K. Hema committee report. The counsel for the government said that a cinema conclave to be held in this regard had been postponed to August.
Directive sought
The counsel for the Kerala Women’s Commission sought issuance of directions to the Department of Women and Child Welfare for effective functioning of monitoring committees.
Earlier this year, the government had informed the court that it had been decided to conduct a conclave on the cinema policy and legislation, either in the last week of April or in the first week of May. A draft legislation would be prepared after the conclave, it said.
