A Class ten student at a government aided school in Arani town in Tiruvannamalai sustained injuries on his neck and right hand after his classmate attacked him with a nail clipper knife near a bus stop on Thursday over a quarrel.

Police said the two students belong to different sections of the same class in the school. They were travelling in the same government bus to school every day. The assailant reportedly bullied his classmates and juniors in the schools over petty issues.

On Thursday morning when they were travelling in the same bus on their way to school, the assailant quarreled with the victim for not obeying his words despite stern warning against such behaviour on earlier occasions.

Police said the verbal arguments between them in the bus suddenly turned into a fight once they got down near a bus stop. The assailant took a nail clipper knife from his pocket and attacked the victim on his neck and right hand. The incident happened around 8.30 a.m.

The victim was bleeding profusely and cried for help. Immediately, passersby rushed to the spot and alerted Arani Town police, who nabbed the assailant. The injured student was admitted at Government Taluk Hospital in Arani town where doctors said that he was treated as in-patient and his condition remains stable.

Police said school authorities and parents were informed about the incident. As per norms, the assailant will be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee. A probe is underway.
