Class X student dies in Cachar clash over land dispute

Silchar: A Class X student, Sadia Akhtar, succumbed to her injuries on Thursday after being critically injured in a violent clash over a land dispute at Hatikhal, Cachar district.

Her death has intensified tensions in the area, prompting increased police vigilance.The incident occurred late Monday night due to a longstanding dispute over alleged land encroachment between two groups led by local residents Atabur Rahman Ahmed and Abdul Hakim. The confrontation resulted in serious injuries to at least 12 people, including two students.According to an FIR filed by Abdul Hakim’s group at Kachudaram police station, around 25-30 individuals from the rival group allegedly attempted to forcibly occupy the disputed land at approximately 10:30pm, armed with sharp weapons and stones.

The situation escalated when Abdul Hakim's family resisted, leading to a violent clash.The complaint alleges that Abdul Hakim, his wife, and son Shoaib Ahmed were assaulted. Sadia Akhtar, returning home from tuition, reportedly intervened when she saw her parents being attacked and was grievously injured. Both Sadia and Shoaib were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in critical condition.

Despite intensive treatment, Sadia died early Thursday, while Shoaib remains under medical care.Police have stated that investigation is on and measures are being taken to maintain peace. “The situation is tense but under control. Adequate forces have been deployed in the area,” an official said.Local residents are demanding swift arrests and strict action against those responsible for the violence.
