South Kolkata Nrityangan brought warmth and rhythm to Rabindra Sadan on January 10 as the city-based dance institution presented its 19th annual recital. Nearly 200 students took the stage, turning the winter evening into a celebration of classical dance, devotion and discipline. The programme was attended by noted guests including Thankamani Kutty, Visva-Bharati Kathakali professor T Shankaranarayanan, Molly Ray, Smt. Urmila Bhowmik, among others.

Jhinuk Mukherjee Sinha, the driving force behind South Kolkata Nrityangan, along with the institution’s teaching faculty, played a key role in shaping the performances, with dancers ranging from 4 to 55 years of age confidently holding the stage. The recital featured a well-curated repertoire including Gajananaayutam (Ganesha Vandana), Krishna Bhajan, Tadiya Mangalam dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Bho Shambhu and Shiva Panchakshara Stotram. The evening’s standout was Shakti Rupena Samsthita. The powerful presentation struck an emotional chord with the audience, drawing them into an intense, almost spiritual experience that lingered well beyond the final act.
