CM announces plans to train film workers in Skill varsity

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced the State government’s plans to train film industry workers in the upcoming Skills University, enabling them to meet the emerging challenges.

Stressing the need for film industry workers to hone their skills, he exhorted film producers to co-operate in this direction. The State government was working to ensure that Hyderabad competes with Hollywood in film technologies and production so that films, cutting across languages, are produced here.

The Chief Minister was speaking to representatives of film workers’ unions on Wednesday. He asked them to convey its needs to the government after holding discussions. He said he had advised film producers not to ignore workers and co-operate with producers of small budget movies. The prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the industry should be maintained as opting for strikes would result in losses to both sides.

Mr. Revanth Reddy asserted that he would see problems as problems and the government was prepared to hold discussions with producers on behalf of the workers. “This is your government. It is my responsibility to resolve your problems,” he said.

He said he would stand by workers but at the same time, interests of the State were also paramount to him. “We cannot remain silent if there is strike,” he said adding the government would work out modalities to provide health insurance cover to film workers. He said the previous government did not give awards to film industry for 10 long years. But the Congress government had instituted Gaddar awards after taking over the reins.
