The Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (CNNL) has cautioned people living in the downstream of the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) against venturing close to the river banks as the outflow from the reservoir may be increased anytime.

The CNNL said in a release that the inflow into the reservoir was at the rate of 13,856 cusecs at 8 a.m. on Monday, and the reservoir level was 120.20 ft. against the full level of 124.80 ft.

Since only 4.60 ft. remained for the dam to reach its full capacity, and there were indications of heavy rains in the catchment area of the river Cauvery in the upstream region of the dam, the inflow could further increase. As a result, the outflow from the reservoir could also be increased.

Hence, the peoeple living on the banks of the river have been urged to relocate to safer places. The CNNL has instructed its officials to keep the public informed about the impending increase in discharge from the dam. They have been directed to take suitable steps to ensure that the people are relocated as a precautionary measure.

The increase in the volume of water in the river owing to rains and the outflow at the Harangi, which is at the rate of 3000 cusecs as on Monday, are expected to augment the rate of inflow into the KRS.
