Coimbatore district collectorate receives yet another hoax bomb threat email

Coimbatore: Personnel attached to the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted an extensive search at the Coimbatore district collectorate on Friday following a bomb threat email that was sent to the collector's official email ID.

They declared it a hoax bomb threat after the search. With this, the collectorate has received four hoax bomb threat emails in the last ten days.Since Friday was a holiday on account of Milad-un-Nabi, collectorate staff members were not present on the premises. The personal assistant (general) of the collector who checked the official email ID on Friday noticed the bomb threat and alerted police.Following this, BDDS along with 'K9 Police squad' (dog squad) conducted a search and found it was a hoax bomb threat. A senior police officer said the miscreants were using the darknet to send hoax emails and so tracing senders was difficult. “Sending bomb threat emails is an act of cyber terror. We are working on tracing the senders of the emails,” the officer said. The collector’s PA lodged a formal complaint with the city cyber crime police regarding the series of bomb threat emails. The police registered a case under sections 351(3), 351(4), 353(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 66(c) and 66(f) of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act 2008 and began an investigation to trace those responsible for the hoax email threats.
