With heavy rains lashing parts of Kurnool district, Collector P. Ranjith Basha asked the administration officials to be on an alert and ensure no untoward incident happens.

Heavy rains lashed Kurnool city and parts of the district on Thursday morning leaving several parts inundated. Mr. Ranjith Basha took stock of the situation through a tele-conference with Sub-collectors, RDOs, Tahsildars, and Irrigation Department officials.

The Collector said that heavy rainfall was reported at Gudur, Maddikera, Chippagiri, Halaharvi, Nandavaram and Pedda Kaduburu mandals, while more rains are likely to hit C. Belagal, Guduru and Chippagiri mandals and asked the officials in these mandals to be on alert. He directed the officials to set up control rooms at the Collectorate, division and mandal headquarters to monitor the situation.

The Collector asked the Irrigation Department officials to conduct regular inspections and inform about water overflowing over bridges. He wanted a joint team of Irrigation officials and VROs to inspect the HNSS canal and Gajuladinne project works and report back if they needed any repairs.

Meanwhile, an APSRTC bus got stuck in the overflowing waters on a culvert between Gudur-Penchikalapadu road, however, the passengers got out safely. Officials informed the Collector that the driver did not heed to the advice of local officials and went ahead, leading to the unfortunate incident. The Collector asked the RTC officials to take action against the bus driver.
