The collaborative efforts of the district police and CRPF personnel under the community outreach initiative led to the surrender of six members of the banned CPI (Maoist) from the Maoist hotbed of south Bastar division in Chhattisgarh before the police in Telangana’s Kothagudem on Tuesday, police said.

With this the total number of Maoist surrenders in Bhadradri Kothagudem district has risen to 326 so far this year.

According to the police, the Telangana government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy coupled with the ‘Operation Cheyutha’ motivated the Maoists from the insurgency-hit south Bastar division to eschew violence and return to the mainstream.

Three party members, a militia commander and a militia member besides a commander of the Chaitanya Natya Manch (CNM), the cultural front of the outlawed outfit, turned themselves in before Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B. Rohith Raju in Kothagudem.

A sum of ₹25,000 each has been disbursed as immediate financial assistance to the six surrendered Maoists.

Further, the remaining financial assistance will be provided to them based on their respective ranks after submission of their Aadhaar cards and bank details.
