Doctors at KIMS Hospital in Kurnool conducted a complex surgery on a 25-year-old woman from Bethamcherla, who suffered complications after undergoing a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) due to fibroids.
According to the doctors at KIMS Hospital, she suffered from heavy menstrual bleeding due to fibroids, which led to doctors advising her a surgery. However, after the hysterectomy, she started experiencing continuous urine leakage, causing severe physical and mental distress, and also suffered from foul odour.
After two months of suffering, she approached the Urology Department at KIMS Hospital.
KIMS Hospital, Head of Urology, Dr. Y. Manoj Kumar said, “The woman came to us after developing urine leakage following hysterectomy. We conducted diagnostic tests like CT cystography, which revealed three vesicovaginal fistulas abnormal connections between the urinary bladder and vagina. These fistulas had formed due to complications from her earlier surgery, resulting in constant urine leakage.”
“During surgery, we carefully separated the bladder and vaginal walls, cleaned and repaired the damaged tissues, and reconstructed the area using new tissue layers. We successfully closed all three fistulas with great precision,” he said. The patient recovered well after the surgery and was discharged in good condition.
