Cong. got 29.17%, CPI(M) 27.16%, and BJP 14.76% votes in local body polls

The Congress got 29.17% of the votes polled in the 2025 Kerala local body elections while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) stood second with 27.16%, and the Bharatiya Janata Party 14.76% votes, show the data on party-wise vote share released by the State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday.

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) took home 9.77% of the votes, while the Communist Party of India (CPI) trailed behind the Independents (5.77%) with 5.58% of the votes. The Congress received 1,60,24,802 votes, the CPI(M) 1,49,22,193 votes, the BJP 81,08,137, the IUML 53,69,745, and the CPI 30,66,476 votes.

Independents, who also include party-backed candidates although the SEC has not specified as such, polled 31,67,381 votes.

The Congress-led UDF clearly had the upper hand across panchayats, municipalities and corporations in the two-phased 2025 elections, while the CPI(M)-led LDF trailed in second position overall. The BJP-led NDA scripted an upset in the crucial 101-ward Thiruvananthapuram Corporation by emerging as the single largest party with 50 seats.

Among the other parties in the UDF fold, the Kerala Congress won 1.33% of the votes (7,30,110), the Kerala Congress (Jacob) 0.16% (85,457), and the Revolutionary Socialist Party 0.48% votes (2,63,202).

Among the other parties in the LDF, the Kerala Congress (M) won 1.62% (8,91,977) votes and the Kerala Congress (B) 0.16% (60,712) votes. The Congress (Secular) won 40,316 votes (0.07%). The Rashtriya Janata Dal won 3,93,182 (0.72%), the NCP- 3,290 (0.01%), the NCP (Saratchandra Pawar) - 2,01,956 (0.37%), and the Janata Dal (Secular) 2,15,125 (0.39%) votes.

In the BJP-led NDA, the Bharat Dharma Jana Sena won 0.26% votes (1,45,402), while the Shiv Sena got 877 votes.

Among the other parties, the Socialist Democratic Party of India got 4,05,246 votes, which accounts for 0.74% of the total votes, and the Welfare Party of India, 0.12% (68,507).

The People’s Democratic Party won 22,994 (0.04%) votes, and the Aam Aadmi Party won 69,450 (0.13%).

The Revolutionary Marxist Party of India claimed 0.11% of the votes (60,829) and Twenty20 Party - 2,11,355 (0.38%) votes.

Among the Kerala units of major parties elsewhere in India, the Bahujan Samaj Party won 31,525 (0.06%) votes, the Samajwadi Party 675 votes, and the AIADMK, 2,348 votes.
