Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has lodged a police complaint against BJP at the Dispur Police Station, accusing the party of using an AI-generated video to incite communal tension ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council elections. The video, titled “Assam without BJP,” was posted on BJP’s official X handle on Sept 15 and depicts a scenario where Muslims dominate public spaces in Assam, including tea gardens and airports, and suggests the legalization of beef.Congress claims the video is designed to damage the reputation of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Gaurav Gogoi and spread communal hatred by exaggerating the Muslim population in Assam to 90%. The complaint accuses BJP’s Assam Pradesh social media department of criminal conspiracy, abetment, promoting enmity between religious groups, and violating the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming elections. The video ends with a message urging viewers to “choose your vote carefully,” implying it was made to influence voters ahead of the elections scheduled for Sept 22.
The complaint specifically names BJP state president Dilip Saikia and other BJP social media campaigners in Assam. Police have stated that the allegations are under investigation, and a case is yet to be registered.Senior BJP leader and Assam information minister Pijush Hazarika responded by accusing Congress of attempting to intimidate those who speak against illegal infiltrators and demographic changes. Congress’s media department chairperson Bedabrat Bora, who filed the complaint, said the video promotes fear and hatred against Muslims and misrepresents India’s constitutional values.A Congress delegation has also met with state election commissioner Ranjan Sharma, demanding action against BJP’s alleged propaganda and the removal of such posts from BJP’s official social media handles.
