Cong notices to 2 leaders for not holding G RAM G protest

Guwahati: Assam Congress on Tuesday issued showcause notices to two district committee presidents for not adhering to the AICC’s instructions to organise protests against the renaming of MGNREGA to the VB—G RAM G scheme. With notices being issued to Bajali district president Guptamoni Sarma and Darrang district chief Rijumani Talukdar, an internal conflict has surfaced between the Assam Congress leadership and some district units ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.Additionally, Assam PCC has accused the duo of not complying with APCC president Gaurav Gogoi’s directive to protest against the alleged failure of the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme in the state.“AICC issued clear directives to all district committees to organise protests against the BJP-led central govt’s decision to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) with the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar, on Dec 21, 2025,” the notices read. However, the showcause notices said no such programmes were organised in the Bajali and Darrang districts.Following the directions of APCC President Gaurav Gogoi, both district Congress presidents were served showcause notices, requiring them to submit their replies within two days from the date of receipt of the notice.

According to the notices, they must explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against them “for negligence and violation of party discipline.”Meanwhile, Dima Hasao district Congress president Heijerangbe Nriame is facing allegations of being completely non-cooperative, for failing to mobilise any organisation or individual for a consultation when senior Congress leaders visited the hill district on Dec 20.
