Congress dominates Sarpanch polls in Vikarabad: Rammohan Reddy

The Congress party registered a decisive victory in the Gram Panchayat Sarpanch elections across the Pargi Assembly constituency in Vikarabad district, by securing a clear majority of posts in both the first and third phases of polling, according to Pargi MLA T. Rammohan Reddy.

Mr. Reddy said that out of the total of 206 Gram Panchayats in the constituency, Congress-backed candidates won 137 Sarpanch posts, accounting for 67%, while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) secured 57 posts (28%). BJP won only four posts, while eight positions went to other candidates. As many as 20 Gram Panchayats unanimously elected candidates supported by the Congress.

Congress emerged strong in Gandeed (62%), Mohammadabad (77%), Chowdapur (83%), Kulkacharla (69%), Doma (63%) and Pudur (75%) mandals. BRS performed comparatively better only in Pargi mandal, where it secured 60% of posts, while Congress managed 43%.

Across Vikarabad district’s four constituencies, Pargi, Kodangal, Tandur and Vikarabad, the Congress-backed candidates maintained a dominant position, said Mr. Reddy.

In Kodangal, represented by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Congress won 132 out of 181 Gram Panchayats (72%), while BRS secured 29. In Tandur, Congress won 110 out of 155 posts (71%), with BRS claiming 42.

In Vikarabad constituency, the contest was relatively tougher with Congress winning 72 out of 143 posts (49%), while BRS secured 30 and other candidates won a significant 38 posts.

Overall, Congress won 451 out of 685 Sarpanch posts (65%), while BRS secured 158 posts (22%). Other candidates won 64 posts and BJP managed only 12, Mr. Rammohan Reddy said. The results indicate a strong rural endorsement for the ruling party in Vikarabad district, he said.
