Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Raju Bista on Saturday alleged that his convoy was attacked by unidentified persons while passing through the Masdhura area near Sukhia Pokhari in Darjeeling district, prompting police to launch an investigation.

According to officials, stones were hurled at one of the vehicles in the convoy, though no injuries were reported.

A complaint has been lodged at the Jorebunglow Police Station, and officers are examining the incident.

“A stone struck the vehicle in which the MP’s associate, Sanjeev Lama, was travelling," a senior police officer said, adding that a probe is underway.

Bista, who represents Darjeeling in the Lok Sabha, said he had been visiting the interior hill areas to assess the flood situation when the incident occurred on his return journey.

“In Masdhura, near Sukhia Pokhari, my convoy was attacked by unknown miscreants. Though they targeted my car, the impact fell on the vehicle right behind mine," Bista wrote on X.

He described the timing of the attack as “suspicious," linking it to the recent announcement of an interlocutor for the region.

“This appears to be a conspiracy to disturb peace in the hills," he claimed.

The BJP MP said such incidents would not deter him or his supporters.

“If those loyal to Kolkata think we will be intimidated by such attacks, they are mistaken. We are not afraid, these cowardly acts only strengthen our resolve to work for lasting peace," he added.

Police have increased vigilance in the area as investigations continue.

Earlier this month, BJP MP Khagen Murmu was attacked during his visit to North Bengal to meet the flood-affected victims.
