The Chennai Metro Rail viaduct for the elevated stretch at Alandur will be completed by December 2025. This is part of Phase II project work for Corridor 5, which spans between Madhavaram and Sholinganallur via Alandur.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday reviewed the ongoing construction of the project at Alandur. He was taken to top of one of the elevated structures using a lift for a review.
This stretch involves a complicated construction called ‘balanced cantilever method’. The CMRL decided to deploy the construction technology, since Kathipara is a busy junction and wanted to build elevated stretches without hindering traffic.
At Alandur, the pillar comes up at height of 31 metres from the ground and has a 125-metre radius curve. The CM also enquired about the status of Corridor 3 between Madhavaram and Siruseri.
Of the 80 segments in Corridor 5, 30 have been completed, an official release said. Minister T.M. Anbarasan and senior officials accompanied the CM during his visit.
