Cough syrup & 40cr heroin seized in Cachar, 3 held

Silchar: Cachar security forces registered two drug busts, leading to the arrest of three suspected traffickers and seizure of Rs 40 crore heroin and thousands of bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.A total of 6.15 kg of heroin worth nearly Rs 40 crore was seized at Hmarkhawlien on Monday. The contraband was packed in 530 soap cases. Two accused, identified as Jacob Hmar and Melody Hmar, were taken into custody.In another anti-narcotics drive, police intercepted a vehicle at the Digorkhal check post on NH-6 and recovered 43 cartons containing a total of 4,380 bottles of codeine phosphate cough syrup. One person was arrested.
