A perpetually leaking drainage pipeline on the main road near Murinjapalam in the capital led to a protest on Monday by a Communist Party of India (Marxist) councillor of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation against officials of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA).
Accusing the officials including the Executive Engineer of apathy, CPI(M) councillor D.R. Anil of the Medical College ward, accompanied by party workers, staged a sit-in near the area and protested against the KWA officials who visited the area near the G.G.Hospital. “For the past four years, the drainage has been leaking, making it difficult for pedestrians as well as motorists to go through this area. People visiting the hospital have also been facing issues due to this. Water flows out of the drainage into the road, causing it to be water-logged even when there is no rain. Although the KWA officials have in the past talked about projects to rectify the issue, it has not been addressed yet,” said Mr.Anil. The councillor ended the protest after the KWA officials said that immediate action will be taken to plug the leakage.
