A lower court Wednesday found the accused in the Anna University student sexual assault case, Gnanasekaran, guilty. The court, while delivering the verdict, said the “prosecution has proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt”.
The court found Gnanasekaran guilty of the charges framed against him in the sexual assault case in December 2024. The assault sparked widespread criticism of security measures at Anna University, located near the high-security Raj Bhavan and IIT Madras.
The victim was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 37-year-old accused, who sold Biryani on the pavement of the university.
In her complaint, the victim said that while she was speaking to her male friend on December 23, 2024 at about 8 pm, behind a building on the college campus, they were intimidated by an unknown person, who sexually assaulted her.
Mahila Court Judge Rajalakshmi said she will pronounce the verdict in the case on June 2.
