COVID Patient had multiple conditions, says govt.

The State government has clarified that the COVID-19 positive patient who died in Belagavi district hospital had multiple diseases and pre-existing conditions.

The cause of his death was acute cardio respiratory arrest with encephalopathy and focal late onset seizures associated with diabetes, hypertension, Ischemic heart disease, and COVID positive status.

The 70-year-old patient had an episode of seizure and became unconscious on May 26. He was treated by a neurophysician in a private hospital and diagnosed with focal seizures, with acute encephalopathy, and severe anaemia with thrombocytopenia.

He had undergone an angioplasty two years ago and had diabetes, hypertension and IHD. He was treated accordingly. His oxygen was 88 percent. His throat swab was taken and found incidentally to be COVID-19 positive.

His attendants took him to Belagavi institute of medical sciences against medical advice on may 28.

He was admitted in the respiratory medicine and treated as per COVID protocols. Despite intensive care, he expired, said a release from the Health Department.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID positive cases in Belagavi district has risen to four. All are in BIMS COVID ward, officers said.
