CPI(M) leaders held during protest against land acquisition in Karedu

Police on Monday arrested CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao, district secretary M. Ramesh and several farmers’ association leaders during the ‘Chalo Karedu’ protest against land acquisition for Indosol Solar Pvt. Ltd. in Ulavapadu mandal of SPSR Nellore district. Condemning the arrests, CPI(M) Nellore City Committee members took out a rally from Balaji Nagar to the Jyothirao Phule statue on Mini Bypass Road, where they staged a protest demanding the release of the leaders.

Party city secretary Kathi Srinivasulu alleged that fertile lands producing three crops a year were being forcibly acquired, despite the availability of lakhs of acres of barren land. He demanded cancellation of the acquisition notification and warned of intensified agitation if the arrests were not revoked.
