Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] workers observed a hartal at Puthuppanam near Vadakara in Kozhikode district on Sunday (June 1), protesting against the attack on three party leaders allegedly by Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Saturday (May 31).

The injured leaders — K.M. Haridasan, Praveen, and V. Bibesh — were admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode city. The clash reportedly stemmed from a dispute over changing the roof of a library building. According to police sources, the three CPI(M) leaders sustained stab injuries when they allegedly tried to prevent the roofing sheet replacement work.
