In a powerful show of solidarity, political figures Prashant Kishor and CPI(ML) have rallied behind the grieving family of a NEET student from Jehanabad, tragically lost in a Patna hostel under horrifying circumstances. Kishor’s visit to the family underscored their unwavering fight for justice amid concerns over police attempts to dismiss the incident as a mere suicide.
Patna: Both CPI(ML) and Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) chief Prashant Kishor on Friday announced separately that they would pursue the case of a NEET student from Jehanabad who was sexually assaulted and later died at a girls’ hostel in Patna.Kishor visited Jehanabad on Friday and met the victim’s parents and brother to understand the details of the case. Speaking to reporters, he said, “The mother of the victim is ready to fight for justice to her daughter and is in no mood to compromise, nor will she fall to any kind of allurement.”“Maybe tomorrow, I will arrange her meeting with either the Patna SP or SSP. She wants proper investigation and punishment to the guilty, whosoever they may be,” Kishor said.
He further alleged that earlier, specific police personnel, including the investigation officer and SHO, had tried to discourage the mother by telling her that “it would take around 15 years for justice, and, therefore, she should withdraw by taking money, something like this, which is very obnoxious”.Kishor also said the police initially attempted to portray the incident as a case of suicide.Meanwhile, CPI(ML) state secretary Kunal said the post-mortem report had put the police “in the dock”, alleging that they insisted on calling it a suicide case and attempted to cover up the incident even when the victim’s parents “doubted that it was a case of rape”.
Kunal also claimed that incidents of violence against women had increased after the 2025 assembly elections. “The CPI(ML) stands with the parents of the NEET girl student. We will launch sustained agitation for punishment to the guilty and also against the negligence of the police,” he said.
