Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana on Monday announced that the A.P. Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has sanctioned the development of a gold cluster at Atmakur near Mangalagiri, which will include a dedicated Gems & Jewellery Park. Spread over 78 acres, the project is expected to attract nearly ₹5,000 crore in investments and create around 20,000 direct jobs, apart from thousands of indirect opportunities.

The CRDA has also cleared an allocation of ₹904 crore for infrastructure development in 29 capital villages under the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) Critical Infrastructure & Investment Plan. These proposals will be placed before the Cabinet on August 21 for approval, following which tenders will be invited.

To facilitate the gold cluster, amendments are being made to the LPS, Mr. Narayana said. The authority has also allotted an additional 100 acres each to VIT and SRM Universities to support their expansion in Amaravati. In a major reform, the CRDA has approved the removal of the word “assignee” from LPS certificates, enabling assigned landowners to participate in the capital’s growth.

On the housing front, the government aims to hand over 4,000 houses by March 31. Major highways in the capital region are targeted for completion within three-and-a-half years, while all layout works are expected to be finished in two-and-a-half years.

The CRDA has also been instructed to promote only non-polluting industries and expedite the plan to develop a Sports City of international standards through a special purpose vehicle. Amaravati will additionally host a Bio-engineering University, along with extended support for existing universities. “All these projects are being planned as iconic landmarks,” Mr. Narayana said, underscoring the government’s commitment to fast-tracking Amaravati’s emergence as a modern capital city.
