Portuguese talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, who picked up a hamstring injury last month, during a game for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, faces a race against time to be fit for the upcoming edition of the FIFA World Cup, slated to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico beginning in June.

The 41-year-old forward has been undergoing pressotherapy, involving the practice of using an air pressure machine to inflate a suit which is then used to squeeze the limbs or target area in rhythmic motion in a bid to assist the lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling and boost recovery.

Al-Nassr manager Jorge Jesus revealed on Friday that, “After tests, we see the injury suffered by Cristiano Ronaldo was more serious than expected."

“Cristiano will now travel to Spain, like other players who went for treatment when they were injured. His injury required treatment in Madrid with his personal therapist, and we hope he returns quickly and helps the team."

Ronaldo’s Portugal are drawn in Group K, alongside Uzbekistan and Colombia, as the three sides await the final side to be drafted into the Group. Portugal are slated to take on Mexico and USA in tune-up games ahead of the quadrennial spectacle.

“When I mean soon, it’s: I’m going back in the days and tell you – I’m really enjoying the moment right now," Ronaldo had said earlier in the season.

“As you know in football when you reach some age you count the months very quick. So, the moment is good," he added.

“As I tell you before I feel very good in this moment, I score goals I still feel quick and sharp, I’m enjoying my game in the national team and Al Nassr, but of course, let’s be honest when I mean soon it’s probably one, two years where I’ll still be at the game."
