The Central University of Kerala (CUK) has unveiled a unique cacti collection at the Kasaragod Botanical Garden and Research Centre (KBGRC) on the campus.

Showcasing over 30 species, the collection brings together fascinating varieties from India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Central Africa as well as specimens sourced from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Haryana.

The collection offers students of biological sciences opportunities for research and study. To preserve them, an environment simulating dry desert conditions has been created, ensuring that the plants thrive without excess rainfall.

The programme was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Sidhu P. Algur in the presence of Registrar Dr. R. Jayaprakash.
