Hours after the Lok Sabha passed the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025 (VB-G RAM G) amid vociferous protest from the Opposition, Congress Thursday announced a meeting of its highest decision-making body—the Congress Working Committee (CWC)—on December 27, a day before the party’s foundation day, to discuss the strategy on how to take on the government over the Bill.

During the CWC meet, Congress leaders said details of nationwide protests will be discussed, and proposal will be sought from members to plan protest roadmap, said a leader who is a member of the CWC. CWC permanent invitee and MP Manickam Tagore told The Indian Express: “The MGNREGA was brought by our party as a guarantee of work for rural population. The totalitarian Modi government is going after the legislation… This will directly impact rural people and result in a boom in migration from villages to cities. We will protest from Parliament to the streets.”
