Thiruvananthapuram: Cyber police registered a case in connection with an allegedly defamatory social media post targeting Rajya Sabha MP A A Rahim, officials said on Monday.According to the police, the complaint was filed against the user of a Facebook account identified as Sreekanth Palickathode. The accused are alleged to have created and circulated a fabricated social media post featuring Rahim’s photograph and attributed false claims to him.Police said the post falsely claimed that several persons arrested as part of Operation Toofan, the statewide anti-narcotics drive, were members of CPM-affiliated organisations such as SFI.The allegedly fake post was widely circulated across social media platforms, leading to the spread of misinformation and causing reputational damage to the Rajya Sabha member, police said. The complaint alleged that the content was deliberately designed to mislead the public and tarnish Rahim’s image by linking him and the organisations associated with him to individuals arrested in drug-related cases.Following a preliminary inquiry, cyber police registered a case and launched an investigation into the origin and circulation of the post.
