Cybercrime suspect dies during police raid

In a dramatic twist during a police operation against cybercriminals in Patna, tragedy struck as one suspect lost their life while another sustained injuries while fleeing authorities. The police successfully detained three suspects, including the mastermind behind the operation, uncovering crucial evidence in the process.

Patna: A late-night police raid on a cybercrime hideout in Ramakrishna Nagar took a tragic turn when one suspect died after jumping from the fifth floor of a building while attempting to escape and another sustained serious injuries in a similar attempt.

Three other members of the gang managed to flee from the spot.The deceased was identified as Sunny Kumar, a resident of Ekangarasrai in Nalanda district. Another suspect, Sonu Kumar from Jandaha in Vaishali district, survived the fall and is undergoing medical treatment under police custody.The operation was carried out at a building located in the Santhua area under the Ramakrishna Nagar police station area. The building is owned by Anil Kumar, who, along with his wife, resides on the ground floor.

The fourth and fifth floors had been rented out to a group allegedly involved in cyber fraud.Police launched the raid following a tip-off about cybercrime activities being run from the premises. Officers first raided the fourth-floor flat, where they arrested three suspects, including the alleged gang leader Anshu Singh, Ahsan Ali from Sonpur, and a minor. Police said the group was running online scams by posing as representatives offering treatment packages.

Interrogation of the arrested suspects led police to the fifth-floor flat, where four more members of the gang were hiding. As officers moved in, the suspects attempted to escape by jumping from the building. Hearing cries from the rear side of the premises, police rushed downstairs and found two critically injured persons. One of them later died during treatment.During searches of the two flats, police recovered 17 cellphones, 11 debit cards, three laptops, eight notebooks and several bank passbooks.PATCHFour cyberfrauds heldIn a major crackdown on cybercrime, Ramakrishna Nagar police dismantled an interstate cyberfraud gang, arresting four accused and recovering 13 cellphones containing transaction details worth several lakhs of rupees. The operation was carried out at a rented house in the Shivnagar area, where the gang was allegedly running its illegal activities.The raid was led by SHO Rajiv Kumar. Police said the arrested accused have been identified as Chintu Kumar, a resident of Nalanda district in Bihar; Robin, a resident of Bengaluru in Karnataka; Madhusudan Reddy from Narayanpet in Telangana; and Govind Raj, also from Bengaluru.City SP (East) Parichay Kumar said on Tuesday that the gang used multiple methods to cheat people across different states. “One common tactic involved sending fake notifications through email or WhatsApp about lottery wins. The fraudsters would then contact victims and claim that to release the ‘prize money’, an advance payment of Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 was required as GST or processing charges. Victims who made the payment were cheated, as no prize money was ever given,” he said.The city SP added that further investigation is underway to identify other members of the gang and trace additional financial transactions linked to the fraud.
