After four failed attempts in nearly a decade, four ancestral lands owned by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim have finally found a buyer. The land got its owner on March 5 during an auction held by the central government. The bidder, who was from Mumbai, reportedly made the highest offer for all four plots, marking the first successful sale since efforts began in 2017.

One of the parcels — Survey Number 442 (Part 13-B) — received the highest bid of over Rs 10 lakh, which was more than the combined value of the other three plots. The reserve price for this particular land was Rs 9.41 lakh.

Details Of Land Parcels

All four properties, owned earlier by Dawood Ibramin, are located in Mumbake village in Ratnagiri, known to be his ancestral place. Some of these lands were earlier registered in the name of his mother, Amina Bi.

The remaining three plots — Survey Numbers 533, 453 and 617 — were sold at their respective reserve prices of Rs 2.33 lakh, Rs 8.08 lakh and Rs 15,440. Only one bidder came forward for these three parcels.

According to officials, the bidder secured all four properties. The buyer is required to complete the payment by early April 2026, after which the sale will be subject to final approval by the competent authority.

Long Road To Sale

These land parcels were attached in the 1990s as part of action against Dawood Ibrahim’s assets and were later taken over by the Central government under SAFEMA.

Attempts to auction the properties in 2017, 2020, 2024 and 2025 had failed due to a lack of bidders. Even after reducing the reserve prices by nearly 30 per cent in November 2025, there was no response.

The association of the land with Dawood Ibrahim and the D-Company discouraged buyers. The remote location of the plots and restrictions limiting their use to agriculture also reduced their appeal.

Earlier Controversies

The auction of Dawood-linked properties has seen controversy in the past. Delhi-based lawyer Ajay Shrivastav had earlier bought two flats in Mumbai’s Nagpada area in 2001 but has still not received possession, with the matter pending in the Bombay High Court.

In 2020, Shrivastav purchased Dawood’s ancestral bungalow in Mumbake village and announced plans to set up a trust there. Later, in 2024, he placed a bid of Rs 2.01 crore for a small land parcel (Survey Number 617), despite its low reserve price. However, the deal was cancelled after he failed to complete the payment.
